I'm a Pick'n and I'm a Grin'n. Mstones 8.5.07

August 6, 2007.
School has started, our Honduran missionaries have returned and A Star is Born.
All I can say is that those of the Milestone faithful who were unable to be in our circle on this past Sunday missed it…I mean they really missed it.
We had a bona fide performance on Sunday…now I seem to remember a visit to our classroom by a certain long ago Reformer who spoke Deutsch wearing a wicked-looking black cape.
Well, I guess yesterday's visitor was a performance or maybe this character was for real?
Or maybe he
was just some poor Hee Haw extra that has been running around trying to get a gig ever since they cancelled that show 20 billion years ago.Yes, these two look like the theologian who wandered into our midst Sunday taking a stop on his travels to somewhere to pick up a mule. Elmer T. Loudermilk was his name.
And i guess he kind of favored the guy on the left or maybe the one on the right -- but both of their teeth are way too purdy to be Elmer's the poor fellow.
But he really was the nicest guy and Shelagh my seatmate managed to capture his image on her cell phone-- if you think i might be telling a tale.
Yes, Elmer had us all on the floor in our Sunday finery.
We were all laughing that hard or we were on the floor just trying to raise our jaws off of it.
But there was something familiar about him.

But there was something familiar about him.
Last Sunday, July 29, Mary and Jim Devane had most ably taught class on the importance of setting a Godly example for our children. And this Sunday after quite an impressive stand-up routine (Buck Owens really couldn't have done it any better) this Elmer fellow also gave us a little theology on parenting.
Now i was still picking my jaw up off the floor (and not taking very good notes) when Shelagh elbowed me and prompted me to take Elmer's counsel down. And it was very good advice...and the Lord knows i need it.

See here's a bird dog. Some type of hound. And Elmer was telling us lots of stories about a great hound of his.
And he shared with us how (sorry, Elmer can't remember her name) was it Mae Lilly? No, for goodness sakes, that was Elmer's wife.
Well, any way this great dog was a birder of the highest order. And we learned how a good bird dog models good birder behavior for the young pups coming along.
(and this is what Shelagh had me write down.)
Patience -- in the field
Passion -- for the hunt
Persitance
That's how we need to model the Christian walk for our children. The Gospel According to Elmer T. Loudermilk. So there.
Anouncements
Next Sunday is Promotion Sunday. Milestone Class will meet in Sanctuary. Information will be disseminated on the Wednesday Night Claim Name Class.
The Honduras team is back. Yea! We learned that there was a teacher's strike last week (kids with time on their hands) and that our group had 150 children for VBS from 9 to 12 and 230 children from 1 to 4. No sweat!
They also helped build a house for the mission coordinator. We look forward to a full report 2 weeks from now.
Prayer Requests
Julie Speyer's Aunt Julie (her mother's sister) has been diagnosed with lung cancer. The prognosis is very favorable. We pray for the Lord's hand to be in all her treatment for complete healing.
Julie Hughes' Aunt Sarah fell and broke her hip. We pray for her recovery and strength during the healing process.
Ross Mason had a very serious bike accident riding the Silver Comet. He is experiencing paralysis at this time. He is in Atlanta at Shepherd's. We pray for his complete recovery.
Alleyne is going to Athens for a second opinion with doctors there. We pray for the Lord's mighty healing hand on her body. Protect and keep all family strengthened during this time.
Melissa Fitzgerald's cousin, Dusty, was in a serious car accident in Alabama. Please heal and comfort him and family. The family had suffered the loss of another child in a car wreck many years ago, and this is very, very difficult for all.

Okay --
Next week: Sanctuary
Following week: Butch Thompson and Honduras Crew!
God Bless. Good Week and
this just looked really cold.
